Freshly Doug Tuesday

Murder Of Our Soul By Mannix Flynn (Dublin): this exhibit (above) can be found in Temple Bar in Dublin. It consists of a wall plastered with the images of children who have suffered abuse at the hands of priests and members of the clergy.

Catholic kiddy-fiddler priests getting off scot-free, and their colleagues being somewhat careless with the truth. Law Professor Patrick Parkinson of Sydney University, who conducted an independent inquiry into how the Salesian order sent three sex offending priests overseas to escape justice, says the Catholic Church is seriously misrepresenting his findings, on their submission to the Victorian government enquiry.

One priest already serving time is seeking to have some of his convictions quashed. Brother Robert Charles Best wants the convictions  in relation to one of his victims overturned, saying the victim was “unreliable, with memories tainted by flashbacks and disassociation.” Best is in jail for 14 years and nine months for sexually abusing young boys over a 20-year period at three Victorian schools, and at 71 years of age, can expect to die in jail.

Also getting off free of charge, this time happily: two protesters who chained themselves to an anti-marriage-equality truck driven by ultra-conservative Christaliban warrior Peter J Madden. They have been released without charge by a Lismore court.

Police found local residents Troy Dunn and Amber McBride locked onto the truck, which was plastered with posters equating homosexuality with child abuse, according to SameSame website.

Over in the USA, the National Organisation for Marriage says same-sex marriage is uncivilized, just like drug dealing and pedophilia. ‘Natural’ marriage, on the other hand, leads to lower taxes, better society, and ‘civilises’ men. That’s assuming you want a tame, pussy-whipped hubby . . . .

In case you were wondering just how all these anti-gay Christian groups can manage to make such convincing-sounding cases against us, the Box Turtle Bulletin has written an anti-heterosexual tract to demonstrate how easy it is to falsify data, take findings out of context, and make pretty well anything sound bad – complete with ‘scientific’ citations.

Take a look at The Heterosexual Agenda http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com/Articles/000,015.pdf , with instructions on how you too can write an anti-gay tract with no scientific basis whatever.

Extremely ‘luvvie’ English gay character actor Simon Callow has written an impassioned piece about marriage as ‘a promise of unending love’,  and how it is our absolute right, and being unfairly withheld.

Like Simon himself, his case is somewhat fruity and over the top, but moving and heartfelt nonetheless. Which is why he does a great Dickens, solo and on Dr Who. He was here recently for the Writers Festival. Bless you Simon.
