The Australian Christaliban Lobby, Bill Meuhlenberg and the other local subsidiaries of US evangelical multinational corporations have been spruiking the so-called ‘Regnerus Study’, claiming it proves that straight parenting is better than gay. It’s now been shown that it does nothing of the kind: in fact, it’s so badly flawed it could even be called fraudulent. Senior academics are now calling for a retraction and demolition job to be published.
Eastern European countries are baulking at the price of membership of the EU if it includes gay rights. Ukraine is about to follow Russia (and Mrs Thatcher) with a bill to ban the promotion of homosexuality. And a raft of hopeful joiners are dragging their heels.
Africa continues to be a beacon of homophobia to the world. In Uganda they may have temporarily backed away from trying to hang us, but there are still those who want us thrown in jail for life. And if you live in the Gambia, an equally homophobic hell-hole, make sure you don’t get AIDS. The president thinks he can cure you with herbs.

The charmingly titled Straits Games, a gay athletics festival, opens today Friday in Phuket with teams from Malaysia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand & USA competing in such hardcore sporting contests as bowling, swimming, volleyball – and shopping.
Another gay sports carnival opens Friday in the Nepalese capital Kathmandhu, with the backing of Olympic swim champion Greg Louganis.
And here at home in Melbourne, the Arab gay group Helem makes its public debut.
